When played well the listener cannot help but<br/>want to dance, sing and play along.<br/><br/>At the center of this music, called salsa or son, is the rhythm clavé. Literally<br/>translated it means “the key.” It is essential for all musicians attempting to<br/>play this music to have a firm grasp of clave, for all other parts including<br/>the bass line and the piano montuno must follow the rules of this rhythm.<br/>Clave by the numbers is a resource for anyone wishing to better<br/>understand this vexing rhythm. I have decided to use a numeric tablature<br/>form of writing. It is my goal at The Rhythm Lab to make all the resources<br/>immediately accessible to anyone interested in learning about rhythm,<br/>with the ultimate goal of gently leading the student toward literacy of<br/>standard western notation. With this method, the complete beginner can<br/>have satisfying first lesson.
